I found help on this one. It seems you can get into teh radioman and mess with teh settings of the radar, but it goes back to the default as soon as you leave. Still in the first patrol with radar, but i do nto see any bonus affects of having it yet. Apparently it gives you beyond sight detects of ships that are in front of you in a relatively narrow corridor. Once again the manual fails us. I really do not understand why people can be bothered with coding all sorts of features into a game, yet will not document them for those of us that buy it. Weird.

Just tried radar and it doesnt really seem to work... lol
Will have another try tommorow, i have twisted my ankle badly in football so cant work for a few days (or walk)
I have a question, when making a single mission if you place ships quite far away from you do they never actually appear? It seems so... Grrrrrrrrrr!

It works! It does it automatically It only picks up ships that are directly in front of you. I have had them spot a few for me.

yea these contact reports appear at the location they are sighted. hence you have to figure out where they're gonna be by the time you get there.
I just draw a line with the ruler giving the approximate course of the target, and then estimate an intercept point using my maths intuition. once i get there, submerge and use the hydrophone, and 99% of the time I can hear ship's screws.
of course, using the ruler/dividers would be more realistic in order to estimate an intercept point, but this works well for me.

well you might try raising your periscope F3 pg up and see the ship then shoot a torpedo at it .. that usually works best

There will be 2 goals you have to achieve for a patrol. 1) Get to the indicated Grid. Seems straightforward but sometimes it will not acknowledge that you are at the correct grid when you have just crossed over the line. I think there may be some give and take between the marked grid lines and what the game sees. 2) The second goal is to stay (and patrol, but you don't really have to, but damned silly not to) in the assigned grid for 24 hours. Easy enough, but make sure you are somewhat more than just inside the grid line (see #1 above) Hope this helps, let us know
