I was wonder how you decide to transfer or not? What are the factors? I started out in the 1st (mostly because it is what it defaults to when you start your first career). I am having fun and see no reason to transfer, although I also feel like I may be missing out on something. And do you take your crew/sub with you when you transfer?

The only reason i could think of to transfer would be to get the type XXI sub. As far as i know its only available with certain flotillas!! Also dont certain flotillas have certain bases. Though the only thing which confuses me is it doesnt show you which flotilla is based where on the swap flotilla screen or am i missing something?

I transfered to 2nd flotilla so I could get my IX sub. They do have different ports. 2nd Flotilla is out of Lorient. If you check uboat.net it tells you what flotillas used what boats.

Hi All I was based at Wilhelmshaven , 1st Flotilla , then after a few missions i asked for a transfer , and was sent to kiel , which was awful , a 3 day trip to get to the North Sea , so after one trip i deleted the mission prior to my transfer request , then replayed the mission , and midway through it i got a radio message saying that the base had been transfer to Brest , Ive got the option now to transfer again , but i don't know whether to or not , as i'm sinking a fair amount of tonnage per mission from Brest , averaging 40.000 tons per trip,

I have done the same as you Urlybird. The one and only reason I was looking to transfer was to try a different U-boat. I am pretty sure the 1st is VII type boats only. As far as placement of bases, the 1st Flotilla rocks! Wilhelmshaven is great at first and when the convoys start rolling in ernest on the west side of England you get transfered to Brest which is ideal, imo anyway.

Transfering is required if you want a bigger boat ..
after transfering to Brest with 1st Flotilla still only VIIC was available .. transfered to 2nd Flotilla in Lorient and was able to upgrade to a XXIB

I like my VIIC now. It may not be the top o' the line boat, but it feels like home at the moment. Will stick with the 1st I think. I like where I get sent to hunt most times.

Uhm I'm currently evaluating a transfer to Lorient to put my hands on a brand new IX type (now that i have enough renowns), but darn, exiting Lorient harbour it's just a pain in the ***! Can't be bothered with such a long maneuver! Visited uboat.net to find some other flotilla with IX type but i discovered only 2nd, 12nd and 33rd had some... by the way only the 2nd is an option 'til now. Any way to sail IX type from, say,Brest?

I just trans. to the 7th Flotilla from the 1st to get my IXB (Im currently in Nov 1940 and my 13th patrol ).... I still need 2,000 reknown though... drat! And Lorient is a PAIN IN THE BUTT to get out of!!! I currently have a VIIB..... is it worth it to go to the IXB....or should I wait for the IXC?? My plan was to go from the TYPE IIA to the VIIB, then to the IXB and finally the XXI....

well i finally made the transfer... exiting Lorient still sucks but man, the IXB it's something really different! Wow i really feel like a have a little capitalship under my feet, a great increase respect type VII... more torpedoes, more tubes, more flak, more room, more range, more power, it really looks cooler... yeah lorient worths it. cannot wait for a radar! And i barely remember those ugly IIA...

Venge...Lorient it isnt that bad. You just cant fly out of port Standard speed with 32X enabled. It usually takes me about 10 min to pilot my Uboat out to open water (ahead 1/3rd at 4- 8x speed).

To be honest I am thoroughly enjoying the areas I get assigned for patrols with the 1st. I am running into tons of escorts now a days as well, and am thinking my smaller u-boat may be the way to go at the moment. I tend to always cut it too close. Wait too long to dive and hide from escorts. I think if I went bigger and slower diving with my uboat it would be the end of me. As it is now I seem to be able to sneak away, even if it is just luck. lol

To be honest I've not really thought much about transferring. I started out with the 7th Flotilla at Kiel and completed 10 patrols before being re-located to St Nazaire. I'm still with my original but more experienced crew and my trusty VIIB. They have served me well so far.
