I was just wondering, i know i have had premeture explosions due to the magnetics. Also torps which bounce off but there was another type of failing which was the torpedo running too deep. Since i dont often watch the run of the torpedo, i end up not knowing why there is not an explosion which is pretty cool. But i wondered, has anyone who watches them seen a torp run too deep compared to how they set it and go under without exploding. I think i may have had one in the rare occasions i watched them which went under and sailed on into the distance.

On very rare occasion i have had torpedoes which i am attempting to detonate underneath the keel of the ship sale right underneat it and continue on without exploding.
I've watched some of them and it appears to be at to correct depth. My guess is that the game not only allows for the magnetic sensors to screw up and cause the torps to explode prematurely but also may not work at all.
Just a guess.

Yup, I have seen them run right under a ship and not go off. Also, if it is a bit rough the torps can just graze off the bottom of the hull and deflect down. Instead of deflecting left or right, it deflects down. I had one deflect up before too. Was taking a final shot at a near dead merchant and as it seems to like to do she started to sink just before my torp got there. The torp deflected up off the deck and way into the air! I was amazed. But did not react quick enough for a screenie.

haha, I've had em bounce into the air too, i was also amazed i was hoping it would drop back down and detonate, but it didn't there is an issue with torpedo behaviour in storms, ie. the torpedos always run in a dead straight line, a tad unrealistic. also, has anyone had torpedos that don't follow the correct gyro-angle? and are there circle-runners in the game?

The Fat-II was the circular pattern one and if you click the ? in the game (that give you a list of everything and the time period it was used) it shows the fat-II torpedo.
I havent gotten far enough in the game to get to that point but i would assume that if its listed it should be in the game.

ah yea I know about those pattern runners, I didn't mean them.
what I mean is in ww2 they had a problem with the torpedos where sometimes the rudders would get stuck, and they could run in a complete circle from the u-boat.
in fact, it is speculated that this is how Prien was killed; that his own torpedo hit his boat.

Think that idea was probably dropped as being too "game over" along with british subs, random mines and fido torps
Like british subs a hit from a torp would be an insta kill so may be seen as a little annoying?

yea I agree, that's why they dropped it. I would've liked it implemented, though. The worse thing is that the torpedos run dead straight even in storms, just another thing that makes the game a little bit easier. Too easy, in my onion.. err opinion ;D (time to go eat something

I have shot them in this Big storm I am in, and they have gone from running 7 meters down to leaping out on the surface and back in again. The most problems I have had with torps is the Elec. ones. I can fire them at 1k and shoot a spread of 3 and one will exsplode before it even gets there, and one will run out of fuel. And the last one will make it to the ship. So some of the issues are modeled in. As to the torps running under the ships and not exsploding, well I have not had that anymore sense I have reached the year 1941. I set them to go off about .5 to 1 meter under the ship as to how bad the weather is. If it is bad I set the depth deeper so it will make it under the ship. And now that I have learned how to do this, get them to go off under the ship. It only takes me one or maybe two torps to kill a ship. Even the Big ones. Nearly every time it will break the back of the ship and it will fold up and sink. Also I use the mod that shows where the fuel and motors, and Ammo is if any, in the ship and I aim for that place. I have found that if you aim for where the fuel is , the damage is the best. As to killing Destroyers? Well I have a system and I kill them every time now. Hehe Now that I have learned! What I do is get the destroyer to come after me, and then if on the surface I dive to Scope depth. After that I wait till the ship is about 700 to 800 meters from the stern of my sub, As I turn away from the ship as it comes after me. And when it get to those ranges I set the torp on fast, and set the depth for one meter under the hull of the destroyer, and then shoot. I set the other tube the same in case I need it. That is if I have two tubes in the stern of the sub. At that range the destroyer can't trun away fast enough to get away. Boom , it blows off the Bow and the ship sinks real fast or goes to 2 knots. And tries to run away. And so far I have had a perfect 100 % kill rate on Destroyers. That makes it great to kill the Convoys. It will normaly take about 5 to 6 hours for them to get another Destroyer to the convoy to help. And I set and kill every thing I can till I am out of torps and Deck gun ammo.
