LOL guess that shows how unrealistic this game is ...
considering the BEST, Otto Kretschmer only had 273,000 tons...
BTW Ive got over 357,000 Tons and I'm sure most everybody else has these same type of unrealistic figures ... just another Stryker 2 cents

Stryker its worth bearing in mind that differnt players play SH3 at differnt realism settings someone playing at 100% will sink less then someone playing at 50% realism.

Yep, on the forum pointed by My sig, 1 player, Maj death, managed to sink 88k on a single mission using 100% realism settings. Tks God, the game does not pretend to be as real as real World. I couldnt stand to waist endless hours in front of a map before spotting a target and missing, due to torpedos flaws, the few targeted! The game can as real as any takes, if that means fun to some (There are already some realist mods in the works),but for me is fun as hell at 54%

Thats basically what Im saying, its a game, meant to have fun, at any setting you choose ,,, even 100% IS NOT 100% ... and everybody is gonna bag their limit It just bugs me every now and then from the post I read (VERY FEW HERE) that alot of the players (mostly kids Im guessing) have no respect for the REAL submariners or aviators or ground pounders or the ones that died so they could play games like these... everything is I'm the biggest and baddest whatever that ever lived and I could do it in real life too (if I could drag my game play'n a$$ into the real world) I'm the aggitator in the mix ;D, just keeping them honest

Well done erlybird thats more then i have ever got playing dead is dead!! To post screenies go to www.imageshack.us and then upload the screenshot to there. Make it a jpg though and if you know how make it 80% the size of the old one. If not just a jpg will do. You can use windows paint for all this. I think the thing which makes tonnage unrealistic is not any aspect of the game, its the amount of ships you meet. If you stop going to the single contacts or switch them off you will get very realistic amounts. I have done that the last 2 patrols and got only 3-4 ships in both. In real life there were few single ship meetings and more convoy meetings. Especially later in the war.

Developers are in it to sell their product and make money. They have to tread the fine line between "Realism" and the gameplay that will appeal to the most potential customers in a very limited genre. The way the game/sim stands now (and there will be improvements), is very entertaining and exciting and it's good that there is the choice of "realism". I myself play on 54% and find it suitably challenging at the moment. I love my cat and mouse with the destroyers and the fact that at the moment I can get away from them with a lot of patience and minimal damage (unlike the games predecessor) As to your next point - I totally agree. Those who play a game for a few days and then think they could take on the world in real life should take a step back from the monitor and think for a moment. We should all respect the sacrifice and bravery made by all sides for what they believed in and by no means least by all the conscripts who did not have much choice in the matter. Lastly, it's very easy to say in hindsight "That's brilliant, I wish I'd have been there - I'd have been the top ace in the R.A.F. / Luftwaffe / Kriegsmarine, infantry etc, etc". Fact of the matter is that the majority of those people would probably not have made it through to the end of the war. Lets just remember the sacrifices that were made, the horrific reality of war and be thankful that we are only playing a game in the comfort of our own homes. I mean no disrespect to anyone serving in todays armed forces, far from it. Riv

Stryker FYI , My 1/4 million tons was accumalated from 20 patrols, I have been out on patrols and come home with bugga all , I served for 4 years in the R.N Submarine service, and speaking from personal experience , if your in the right place , i.e near the shipping lanes , it's very easy to quickly notch up a high tonnage, The game is pretty realistic , apart from the fact that when you get below about 30 metres the boat still rolls as if it's on the surface , this doesnt happen in real submarines , there is no biological noise being picked up on the hydrophones, and the sea bed is a flat barren place, but on the whole , it's pretty real

NAW man, don't take it personal It's a good game, I just don't even count tonnage as it is totally unrealistic .. as proven by actual tonnage achieved by REAL Uboats And comparing WWII Uboats to modern subs is like comparing SPADs to the Space Shuttle .. those guys had it ROUGH We all know .. NOBODY would buy a game where you never got to sink a ship, hell the only graphic you would need would be a map with a dot that you drove around.. The fun of the game is the chase, the attack, the neat BOOM and awsome graphics .. 20 patrols is great, I'm on 13 and started the day it came out... but I take my time, choose my targets. let alot pass rather than risk losing my boat.. We each have our way of playing, so no way is wrong.. Its about having fun, relaxing, and blowing things up ;D I have as much fun relating a decent patrol, taking a good SS, and agravating people here, as I do playing.. But most of all it's not personal and it's not who's best.. It's like golf, you against yourself .. the rest of us just like to laugh when ya dub one ;D

Not me man, I blow everything up! If I can blow it up and I see it, it gets blown up real good! lol Well, except DD, them I leave be unless there is only one and it is escorting a large convoy, then it gets blown up with a torp too. I even enjoy blasting the crap outta airplanes! Realistic? probably not. Fun? Bloody right it is.
