I need help in hitting warships with my torpedoes. I get just under 1,000 m. I am directly in line with the broad side of the warship. So then I click on my "weapons officer" and have him identify the ship and then choose a solution and then "fire" the torpedo I have selected. The torpedo heads toward the warship, but misses the target altogether? What am I doing wrong. Please help. I love the game.

LOL .. well the first thing you are doing wrong is attacking warships Unless it's a Battleship or a Carrier NO Uboat would ever attack a DD unless it was for self defense ONLY (yes we know, shoot the escort, pick and choose the sitting ducks in the convoy) (This DIDN'T happen in R/L) (BUT this is a game, designed of course to make the player the GREATEST Commander EVER, more kills, more tonnage, and a longer life, than ANY real Commander) That said .... In the game a DD is faster, more manuverable, and has an AI smart enough to avoid torpedos, generally you can't get within 1500m without being spotted, and your best chance to shoot one is to be stopped in front of them, and have them steam into your path, or hit them with a stearn shot as they pass and turn from their depth charge run .. I think the 1.2 patch fixed some of their chasing you straight on so you had a perfect shot as I have noticed they tend to zig zag now during a chase .. I did shoot one coming at me 0 angle bow to bow as I shadowed a convoy from the rear and was spotted, when he got 1000m I fired 2 magnetic at 3 degree spread, neither hit him but one exploded close to his port which caused him to turn and as we passed I got a stern shot which took him down (this was basically self defense as I had no intention of fighting the escort) and 3 torpedos for 11T isn't worth it ... During REAL convoy attacks (generally done by wolfpacks) Uboats would spend as much as 2 weeks hitting and running, target a ship, shoot, run like hell from the escort .. REPEAT (day or days later) (ALSO 7 out of 10 ships hit by a torpedo DIDN'T sink) they repaired the hole and steamed on (which also seems to happen more since 1.2)

Stryker, Im glad that this game does not try to be as in real life, if not it would be a pain in the as... to play! Still, at least it can show how much difficult was the real life of uboaters, how frustating must have been and how rewarding when sucessful!!!
