Well my apologies to everyone who said so. Rain bug is definately time compression related. I did some experimenting with the single mission and sussed it out. Up to 32 speed is fine on the deck, rain stays. But go below and use high speed it vanishes. Now it does come back, but only if you use 8x or less on deck. It seems to take varying times to come back, from between 3 mins to 10-20 mins game time. This could be related to the amount of time you have been in high time speed, i didnt do enough tests to find out for sure. So basically to see rain you have to keep time compression to a minimum, and if you do use it on deck only 8x or so if its disappeared and you want it to come back Its quite funny because it actually starts up slowly again, like a new rain squall is coming. I have not tried this in the campaign but it could be (and most likely is) a similar situation. I will try it when i have a chance, if anyone else could do so also that would be cool!

well I just did a patrol, and I saw rain for the first time! wuhoo! you're absolutely right in what you say, it works just that way in campaign mode. I didn't get chance to test it properly (too busy chasing a ship (see below)), but it does seem that the amount of time it takes for rain to come back is related to the amount of time you spend at high speed compression. Anyways, it was raining, and heavy fog. Probably about 1000m visibility, very nasty. I picked up a merchant on the hydrophone, and was chasing it for hours. It was moving too fast for me to chase submerged, so I had to keep surfacing, dieseling along, submerging, using the hydrophone to pick it up again... etc etc... Finally got a visual, pretty lousy small merchant, but I wasn't letting her get away after all the trouble I'd been to. The first FIVE torpedos I fired at her were all duds. ARGH!!! So after reloading and finding her again (yep, I lost it in the thick fog, had to submerge and go through all that again), fired my very last bow torpedo from a perfect angle, hit her midships, and she sank within 5 minutes. ARGH! the trouble I went to to sink that lousy boat!

Der Furher wishes you to know that torpedos cost 24.000 Reichsmarks each, at 144,000 Reichsmarks per sinking we will go broke before the end of the war.. Please return to base for further Torpedo training

Der Furher needs to give us torpedoes that actually explode Practicing manual TDC now so it'll take a while for my next patroll. I've got 138.000 tons sunk and going on 200k ;D Later edit: Sunk 10 ships on that patroll with manual TDC and deck gun Found out that if the torpedoes hit the hull at 90 degree angle they'll explode 80% of time Can't outrun destroyers underwater so don't try

I rarely get any duds as long as i fire as close to 90 deg. as possible and use both impact and magnetic triggers. If i try and fire from close to behind or in front of the ship (why fire from in front, dive and wait for them to come by) i notice that nearly all torpedoes will deflect off the hull.
THe only way to hit a ship with a bad shot like that is to go for an under the keel shot. The magnetic trigger does not care what angle its coming from, only the impact does. Your probably not going to get a 1 hit sink from this but if you hit from behind it usually knocks the engines out.
Its important to remember to TURN OFF the magnetic trigger in very rough seas. I dont have a problem with them going off much in calm seas but bad weather seems to wreak havoc on the magnetic sensors.
You should also probably turn off the magnetic trigger in calm seas aswell if you are not going after a under the keel shot. There is still a chance of it randomly blowing up in the middle of nowhere and it does happen sometimes.
Anyone else ever have torpedoes blow up for no reason? It does not seem to happen as much as the information on how faulty they appears to suggest.

About Rain, I was North Scapa on surface going to my parol zone I had been running at 128 and above on time acc. when to F4 to check the sea and weather and the crew all had rain gear on? Did not see any rain? checked Nav for weather report and showed no bad weather ? Was getting close to Scapa area and wanted to man flak gun . "Could not" Message said storm going on?? Later in day I was able to man flak station. A aircraft came over made a bomb run but missed the flak gunner fired but missed I pulled the plug and dived. Will write more about patrol 2 later Lane
