Lol i just posted this in the main ubi forums, i was looking through the sound folder and found loads of cool sound effects. It really depressed me because i realised all the cool things they were going to put in the game but didnt for whatever reasons. Time, not the skills, bad idea ect. I really wish they had done, there are some needed things in there. The best i found was the sound of the ballast blowing and compressed air ect. WHY O WHY! lol Gutted, well maybe they will implement them with the next patch if we are really really lucky. It teaches me not to pooch around in the folder any more!

Yes there are lots of sound effects which they were obviously going to put in but they didnt due to lack of time or whatever. Some cool ones are the ballast blowing, and compressed air (Has to be in i think!!) and also a cry of "Abandon ship!!" from one of the guys lol Also crew coughing (lack of oxygen, maybe this is in since i have never got low on oxygen) and laughing, and screaming. All would make it more immersive, though some could be in and i have not noticed them yet. I hope they add them!!

Well this was posted at the ubi forums in answer to my post there, so i will have to try this when i get home. Must just be a bug with the german speech. If you do it make sure you back up the original files so you can go back if you need to after a patch.

If you look in the data/config folder you will find files called Message_CH.cfg etc. These contain references to some (but not all) speech files in the game. I still haven't found any references for the remaining speech files. Would be great if someone knew.
Someone wrote that when you use English speech, you can hear the crew cheer when you destroy a ship. You do not hear this with German speech. This got me thinking...
... and then I found a way to bring the crew cheers into German speech I presume this method works for other speech files that are present in the English dialogue but not in German.
Step 1: Go into the Speech and Speech_En folders. Each contains folders named 1 to 9. In all folders 1 to 9, find the files ono_cheers01.ogg etc. You'll see that the Speech_En actually contains more of these files than the German folders. Copy these files into the corresponding German folders: ono_cheers03.ogg and so on.
Step 2: Rename the Speech folder into Speech_En and rename the original Speech_En folder into Speech.
Step 3: Start SH3, go into Options and set Crew Dialogue to English
Then start a mission and torpedo a ship. One of the guys in the Tower will cheer when you hit
However! - I noticed a few problems with speech synchronisation: in some instances the speech is slightly overlapping. - The German crew will sometimes yell Yes! which is rather inappropriate To work around this, do not copy the English speech files, but make copies of the German ono_cheers01.ogg file and rename them into ono_cheers03.ogg etc until you have the same number of files as in the English folder.

date/sounds folder, in the sh3 folder. they are saved in ogg format so you cant check them unless you have a program which plays ogg's foobar 2000 is wicked and free Thats what i use. They are all in there, though there are more in the english folder then the german one. There are some cheers in the German folder though, its strange they dont work, well i have never heard one anyway.

Ok i sorted it, i made copies of the sounds so there were the same amounts as in the english sounds (5 i think) and then did this for the first 4 folders (numbered 1-4) then i got bored of doing it and went and played the game. Well it works without having done all the folders. I will have to do the others when i have time to see if it makes any difference. But now i have crewmen who go YA! when i sink a ship its cool. Just sunk my first C3 cargo in the fjords (one torp by eye ) and my guy on deck gave a shout at the same time as me lol! Worth doing if you have time.

Dom, I guess you guys are running German voices with english text? That's what I have set. Dom was it hard setting up those sound files? I get a little scared working with the XP file system. I worked with win 98 SE so long adding files making mod changes used drag and drop system Some times I fear I will mess something up guess you got to back up your folders and files. I bet that is neat hearing those sounds now Lane

Its easy its just monotonous. Step by step way is change the speech_en and speech folder names round by renaming them. (You will have to name one differenltly first because you cant have 2 folders with the same name) Then start duplicating the shouts in the german folders. (now named speech_en) I did folders 1-4 in that folder, Just do the cheers files Ono_cheers01.ogg Ono_cheers02.ogg Files called OnO_cheers.ogg 01 and 02 are there. Just copy and paste them both (do one you like twice) and then rename these 3 files by right clicking again and selecting rename, to Ono_cheers03.ogg and 4 and 5. I only did it in the first 4 folders and then got bored but it works with just those lol. Takes under 10 minutes. Now select english in the menu for sounds (seems to pause for about 20 seconds so dont panic if it does) and then the computer thinks you are playing in english but you are in german If your in english already you will have the cheers.
