#$$!^ (profanity edited) I ran into my first Task force today (Hunet group of 5 DDs and a aircraft carrier). I had just got back from a Tanker killing EXTRAVAGANZA in the straights between Cuba and Santo Domingo (see my thread Tankers galore in the Hints and tips area). I had sunk 3 T2s and 2 T3s.. as well as other ships enroute. Back to my spotting of the Hunter group.... I was so excited only to realize I had NO TORPEDOS!! ARRRRGGGGHHH

I think its probably a good thing you had no torpedoes. If you could get close enough to get the carrier i dont think they would have let you escape with your life How deep was it where you were? If it was shallow you would definately have been in trouble!

I ran into another Hunter group on my next patrol just west of Gibraltar....
Shot my only two stern torps at the Bouge Carrier from 3,000 m. Then spun around and shot my last bow at about 2500 m. THe two sterns hit, bow missed.
At that point I had 4 DDs all over me. Hounded me for 4-5 hours. I was at 83% Hull and submerged to 120 m. PING PING Still all over me...and now they had a friend joining them from Gibraltar. I must have survived at least 4 DC attacks by going to Full ahead and manuvering!
SO in a act of desperation I surfaced to 90m and let loose my BOLD2 Sonar decoy... as DCs were exploding all around me I did a Knuckle port to the open sea and went down to 135m. I prayed my Hull would hold out!!!
Well it did.... I slowly crept away. THen I get the message ENEMY DESTROYED SIR!! I must have hit that carrier pretty hard with those two torps. She went to the bottom.
After another hour I slowly got away from the VERY angry DD escort! WHew!!!

Thanks Jag.... it wasnt easy. And Im in 1944 now and those DDs are even better! Man I dont know how those guys did it in real life. I guess I can see why 25,000 U boat sailors never made it home.
