U-46 Patrol 13

March 4,1942 U-46 left St Nazaire for AD88
Off South coast Icland near port Reykjavik
good weather most of trip north Found my first convoy
after midnight off north coast Irland
Lead desroyer escort pass by so I moved out in front
of convoy. was at P-dept as they move by in dark.
I got afraid one of them mit run over me
So I waching 90 deg to my left and 0 deg in front
and 180 deg in rear Seem like they were to close or
two far away So I fired my 4 bow tubes then I when
deep and set a course move south Crew said there
was one torp impact Here comes the destroyer
he works me over and damage deck plates and flak
gun. damage control can not fix till I surface.
I go near red line on dept gage and make my escape
watch the DD with F-12 key he has his searchlight on
and is drop dept charges If I had been at P-dept
I mit have try to get him with my stern tube
So My first convoy attack at night I got "convoy fever"
but one ship is going to make port with some damage.
Surface late in Am made Repairs and moved to my
patrol area was on surface wind to high to man flack
gun was overcast then I got a report from bridge crew
aircraft approching so I order crash dive I think some
PBY's dive bombed my postion. there was some heavy
bombs going off as I dove. Made it to AD88 patrol for
24 hrs Just on surface at night now charging batterys
fresh air. going to check out single merchant route
going south from Iceland staying at p- dept during
day.
Do You think U-46 will make it home safe?

Was in bad weather south of Iceland.
I just got tired of Stormy sea's and Bad weather
and just end patrol.
I am not finding any ships trips going north Spring 1942? Just that one convoy in AM area at night
Go convoy fever Like Deer fever when hunting ;D
I think the new is wearing off SH3?
I think I need to set down and watch Das Boot again.
Left Home port and on patrol 14 now.April 1942

you should be okay,its still only march? 1942. this time next year ,if your still alive,u wont be for long. Although you have had your fair share of attention this patrol!! good job on surviving so far!
