Across the valley from where I live is a tiny village.Like many of the communities around here it is just a few rows of terraced houses clinging to the hillside. To be exact there are seven rows of approximately forty houses and I was wondering what price in the lives of it's young men did this one village pay in the two World Wars.War Memorials give names of course but not addresses so I was lucky that the local library could give me the information I wanted.I found that in World War One ,fourteen men from these seven rows were killed. All of them in the Army. From one single row four men died, two from the same house, although different surnames(brothers in law?)In World War Two,six were killed, one in the Army, one in the Royal Navy and four in the RAF.Three of these were from the same terrace, in fact they lived next door to each other, two brothers from number 23 and the other man from number 22.One of the brothers was in the Navy the other was in the RAF.Neither of them have known graves.

Wow! I bet we all would be amazed if we just looked around. Us Americans can just look at the local VFW (Veterans of Foriegn Wars) and see all the heros we can imagine.
