Did you know that although America didnt enter the war until Germany declared war upon them, their destroyers were actually attacking U-Boats a few months previously when they started escorting convoys. This is actually simulated in the game which i thought was pretty cool, if you attack a convoy and there are american destroyers they shell and depth charge you!!

Newsflash: At birtish request the USA extended their international water to some about 3000 kilometers, so ships could accompany convoys a longer way. So they had every right to attack you since you where in their teritorial waters (that's in you're really far in the Atlantic, beyond Greenlads meridian).

American neutrality was basically a sham from mid 1940.. Sept 1940 US gives Briton 50 DD for 99 year lease on 6 bases Dec 1940 Roosevelt creates "Lend Lease" or we'll give you 7 billion dollars worth of equipment and you give it back after the war Apr 1941 US declares Greenland a protectorate and routes and captures sever German detachments manning weather stations there.. May 1941 Roosevelt extends Naval Patrols into Atlantic.. Aug 1941 Rossevelt meets with Churchill (widely held as how to get US into the war) Sept 1941 US DD "Greer" exchanges fire with Uboat (who fired first is disputed) Roosevelt uses it to declare US will escort convoys further into war zone to "protect US shipping" Oct 17, 1941 US DD "Kearny" torpedoed while whit British convoy.. Roosevelt stirs pot claiming "America has be attacked" Oct 31,1941 US DD "Reuben James" is sunk by Uboat while excorting convoy becoming the first US ship sunk.. Nov 1941 Congress amends Neutrality Act to allow US ships to dock in foriegn ports .. 3 weeks later the US will enter the war on Dec 11 Another questionable item was that both the US and Brition tryed sending passenger ships into know Uboat areas hoping they would be sunk to incite the American people into coming into the war..

Yes the whole free world was lucky that Roosevelt had the sense to see what the future of mankind would have been if the Nazis had forced Britain to surrender.I have worked with Germans and found them decent people and the bravery of German soldiers is unquestionable but sadly they were fighting for one of the worst causes in human history and the defeat of Germany in World War II was hugely necessary.

As a Ameican that lived in Germany for 6 years...I have also found the Germans to be a GREAT group of people...once you get to know them.
I live in a small town called Zweibruken Once I got out and started going to small (excuse my German spelling as I can speak more than I can spell) Gausthaus...and got to know the locals and they me...they treated me like member of thier small town. It was quite an honor.
And one of my best friends Peter and I used to laugh. Why...it was highly likely that his grandfather and mine probably shot AT eachother. We found out by him acting as tour guide, and taking me to different towns that his grandfather and mine both fought in the same small town (Saarbruken) just inside the French/German border.
We often talked about what our granfathers would say if they knew we were such good friends.

How true.... I know plenty of Americans that are total w*nkers. I also admire the Irish.... bunch of unruly types that dont give a rats arse what the rest of the world is doing. No offence to anyone here, but in my years of living overseas (total of 8 yrs) the only people I found to be rude and inconsiderate as a whole were French... Not that Im saying Americans can be any better mind you, as I think as a whole Americans can be a bit arrogant and self-absorbed at times. When I lived in Germany I was amazed at how many Americans I knew would refuse to attempt to speak German, and would not try and socalize with them. I looked at like I was a guest in thier country so I at least attempted to speak German and take a active interest in thier culture. And I wont even go into the fun I had in my visits to London and the small pubs in the surrounding areas (like Brize Norton RAF base). But the English, Dutch, Spainish, Italians, Greek (those were most of the places I either visted or lived) we all very nice folks when you got to know them.

People are much the same the world over when you get to know them.I worked a few weeks in Indiana, USA when the company I was working for set up a new plant there. After a few days everything seemed so familiar that I almost felt I could get into my car and drive home.No doubt a lot of this was down to the language and culture similarities but also I think the people I was working with and also people I met socially were generally some of the nicest I've known.

You would find most of the people in the mid-west USA are very nice people. They are very quick to be nice to you...but take FOREVER before they will call you friend and trust you.
My favorite place I have lived in the USA was St. Louis Missouri. Basically the same mentality as those in Indiana.
"I almost felt I could get into my car and drive home"
I felt the same way about England....except for the fact you all drive on the wrong side of the road ;-)

Just moved here about a year ago....so I havent had a chance yet. And the wife could care less about historical stuff But I do hope to go there and Gettysburg someday. I personally like the American Revolution... It was amazing to stand on the cliffs overlooking where the battle of Yorktown in Virginia (and the ultimate defeat of the British crown) happened.

Ill have to take some photos of my authentic civil war rifle I have. It even has the armory stamp of Harpers Ferry on the side.
