Mmm its a tough one, but i would say a wicked (and cheap) thing to do is search on teh internet. Type in "the first crusade" and "the second crusade" into search engines and you will find some wicked stuff. Though i know its not as much fun to read on teh computer as it is from a real book (or is that just me)
I have learned what i know from lots of small parts in a variety of books, i have never read a book solely about the crusades.

thats is probably a world record for a slow reply.id forgotten id even asked the question! im reading up on rome at the moment. a book called "rubicon", its about the rise/fall of the republic but its written in an extremely interesting way,not boring at all. although when he started mentioning clodius, cicero, catiline, caeser, crassus etc on the one page it starts to get a bit confusing.
