SHIII is a DVD, not a CD .. the copy protection is embedded in the DVD so you cant crack, patch a no cd, or copy it to use a backup

Don't believe the hype Stryker, the game was cracked at least a week ago .... Not sure if it was version 1 or 1.1 though. If ti was just 1 then it will just be a matter of another week or two and 1.1 will be out. Starforce did not seem to take any longer to crack than any other copy protection. Thats how I know this, have been keeping an eye to see if all the negative fallout of them using starforce was worth it. It was not, could of used a less community hated copy protection and got the same results. Hope UBI did not spend a lot for teh use of starforce. If they did, they got ripped off.

For the record though, I am not promoting piracy at all here. I paid for the game and hope others do too. As I said, my interest was the whole aspect of how good starforce was compared to how many posts of "I ain't gonna buy it if they use starforce". For a while there I was considering not buying it until I looked into starforce and got a good indication that it would not cause problems on my machine. Truly though, for all the bad press starforce gets (be it true or not) if I was a game manufacturer I would not use starforce because it is no more effective copy protection than anything else. There seems to be quite a large amount of people that hate it and won't allow on their machines. Just does not make good marketing sense. If this was a popular genre and had a lot of competition I likely would not of looked into starforce and decide it should be ok, my first opinion was f-that, that is not getting on my machine. And I would of gone off and bought the next game. And I bet some did, even in a limited genre such as sub sims.

Oh, and as for the best anti piracy thing they could do. A manual that is to die for and charts and such that rock. That sort of thing. Make people want to buy the game for the whole package, not just the software.

I can never understand why they put the manuals on the cd... Its dumb! Really who is behind that train of thought.
Best anti piracy tool is low prices and good packages as said above. This game was very cheap so i doubt it has been pirated much. Except by serial pirates who never buy anything.
