The thing about digital cameras is to figure out what aspects are most important to you (optical zoom, mega pixels etc) and find teh make model that does this best. I spent a fair bit of time looking into didital cameras before I bought mine, and to be honest they tend to be much of a muchness. And you get what you pay for. I have yet to talk to someone who hated the camera they bought. In fact, every single person said they would buy the exact camera again if something happened to the first one. Bottom line, go for the one that does best what you want it for. I went with the Kodak DX6440 a year or two ago. Still very very pleased with it. Just bought the Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E last week. Far from top of the line digital video camera, but it has what I am after at a reasonable price

Well thats what i thought but now i have researched it there are lots of important things. One of the most important for me is the shutter rate and photo speed. I want to be able to click, and the camera takes a photo instantly which is a problem with digis. The one i showed there seems to be pretty fast for that but at some sites doesnt get a very good review, it also does movies which is cool!!! Though im not that bothered about that. It is a good secondary thing though. The only bad thing is its plastic, and its also very expensive for more memory. Crazy expensive! Ohh well, i am going to check now and then go into town and see, i have the day off time for some more research.

Since I have worked in a photolab recently I can recomend you the following page: www.dpreview.comThere you have a nice Buying guide with option to compare several cameras side by side. Personaly I would recomend Canons because of their superior software.

Thanks that site is usefull!
I went in today to do an impulse buy but the shop had sold out (probably a good thing)
Two i am most interested in are the
sony DSC P200 £230-250 Sony DSC P93 £160
I will check into the cannons but i like the outward look of the sony a lot. I want something which takes pretty good pictures and something easy to take on holiday and cycling ect. So they looked pretty cool. One thing was all the best ones are "proper camera" shape if you get me. Like old negative using cameras. I prefer this smaller pocket style.
Anyone have any opinions on those two or anything similar region but better, you know better features. I dont mind too much about software messervy as i will be uploading to computer and using a paint package to mess, rather then the bundled software.
Can you select smaller picture size on high def cameras. Eg if i get the 7,1 mega pixel one, can i still take pictures at 3mp if i want?
Im a bit clueless as you can see. Ok time to eat!! all this research has made me hungry!

I am not sure about those particular models, but most (if not all) cameras allow you to take smaller photos. The reason for this is to gie you the option to get more photos saved to disk.(or stick, ot onbaord memory etc) Can come in handy when you can't download your photos, when you are camping or cycling or whatever. 7 megapixels is awesome, never realized they have kept the prices reasonable and still have that resolution. What a difference a year (or two??) makes. Back when I was buying 4 megapixels was about as high as you could go without doubling the price of the camera.

Yeah the DSC 200 looks nice, i started out thinking i would get a £100 one, but now im up to £250 lol. But its worth it, i go on wicked holidays where i need a good camera, and last holiday to morroco alone cost me over £80 in photo processing!! And a large amount of them were shocking lol, with a digital i could pick and choose more. Caus i am one of those people who just shoots at anything....
Ohh look a tree!!! and my friends in spain are... "what you dont have trees in england?
I get tourist fever lmao
Thanks for all your help, i think i will go with that 200 one, need to do some more research on it, i really dont know what most the the things mean...
