Was wondering if any of you guys have setup a fixed server for either "Teamspeak" or "Ventrilo" online communication? Of course, "rogerwilco" is fairly simple, so this too is an option. In addition, a fixed channel on one of these comm packages would be kind of neat for some of us to meet "verbally" online, and share some tips or suggestions, via word of mouth. Not to mention, using it to communicate within wolf pack tactics for multiplayer. Just a thought. www.ventrilo.com/download.phpwww.goteamspeak.com/news.phprogerwilco.gamespy.com/products/downloads/

yea you need a microphone, this is for voice communication. I have Teamspeak installed, and a few weeks ago there was a server set up for us to use with SH3, although it seems to be down now I would love to have some multiplayer games with you folks, using voice communication, that would be great fun although, as I use voice recognition aswell, it could get kinda confusing, lol

hmm, I dont know too much about this. in my experience of voice comms (which I've used quite a bit), you can really tell when someone's using a very cheap mic. But then, I'm pretty sure that you could get a decent mic for pretty cheap (though, I'm not even sure what "cheap" is, lol). hmmm, that paragraph wasn't very helpful, was it? I use a Plantronics headset. When I first bought it a few years ago it cost me about £40. It plugs into a USB port on my computer, and its pretty high quality. When I use it for voice recognition, it's virtually flawless. I reckon you could get something that would work well for voice comms for a quarter of that price, but I'm only guessing, to be honest... better if someone who has bought a mic more recently than me could help you out...

oh, and then we need to find a Teamspeak (or whatever) server we can use... does nobody else use voice communication?

Most of us online WWII air combat simulation players use this form of communication. A cheap microphone will work, but a boom mike with headset is much better and affordable. Besides, momma aint gonna wanna hear all that chatter....hehee
A static IP is the best for fixed server operation. Anyone out there got a static IP? Teamspeak server is fairly simple to setup, as is Ventrilo. RogerWilco is the easiest however, but not the best quality.

Yup, I live in NZ, near Whangarei and there is a D i c k Smith store there. Will check out Harvey Norman as well. Spent close to 10 grand there over the last few years so a few of the sales guys there know me and cut me a deal most times. ;D Thanks for the info!
