Apologies if this has been addressed before...
My understanding is that the ideal torp is one which detonates underneath a target, directing the energy up and into the keel.
Assume a smooth ocean, with a non-moving target that draws, say, 7.8m. What's the best torp depth to run at on magnetic?

I believe the best depth for the most damage is 1-2 meters below the keel. So in calm seas, that setting should work great. In rough seas, allow for less margin for error, set it for at the keel depth. You will still do severe, if not critical damage with fish that detonates shortly before reaching the keel. Personally, I always set mine to run 0.1 - 0.5 meters under the keel in all sea conditions, and the only reason I do this is because it has not failed me yet. I have yet to have a 'dud' fish or one go under the keel without detonating, although one did detonate early.

Thanks much. I guess some field testing is in order for my weps officer.

In really rough seas I set my triggers to impact only. You seem to get way more prematured detonations in rough weather with magnetic triggers.
