Plotting your course out of harbours

I heard people complaining about how difficult is to get out of Lorient.
Last time I had troubles getting out of Bergen. The TC kept on dropping on 1.
Next time I plotted my waypoints very densly and "voila" I got out on any TC I wanted.
Maybe it was just a coincidence or maybe not.

If someone is currently in Lorient I would suggest to give it a try.

Humm not a bad idea. Problem with Lorient is as you leave the docks there are HUGE breakers about 800m in front of you. I have to turn stb and go about 1200m, then turn to port for another 800 m or so past a light house and more breakers, then you have to micro-steer your ship thru some very narrow shoals.

Your nav map doesnt show all these breakers and such.... so I dont think your system would work in Lorient. By the time Im past the last breaker Im almost in open water. But I will try it anyway to see if it would work.

I think you also get dropped to 1x when your boat is near grounding itself. And the average depth to keel in Lorient is < 11m

Tried it and it didnt work.... but by the time I went to 1X speed only (again in Lorient)...I could just hit ESC and Dock at: Lorient.....
