Hi, I'd like to introduce myself to you fine Ladies and Gents. My name is Dan and I have been looking for a great sub sim like this for years. I joined the PC age a little late, but I was an avid fan of Red Storm Rising for the Commodore 64. I played that religiously when I was going to college. I miss it too.
Currently I'm on my 13th mission and just sank 92 tons of metal. Woohoo.
I appreciate your Great site. Your tutorials helped me greatly on learning how to track ships and convoys, how to approach and fire torps, and how to evade.
I have a few questions that I hope you folks could help me with. I like to take out the warships and then pick off the convoys. My questions are about attacking convoys with big gun:
1. What shell, and where do you aim for best effect when attacking a ship on surface? 2. Should one choose ArmorP or HighX for certain ships? 3. When pounding a ship, should one keep aiming at the same area or spread it around? 4. And lastly, besides it being ethically, or morally correct, do we down 'passenger liners'. Or leave them for the last?
I'd love to hear all ideas and suggestions on my question.
And about Italian soccer, don't get me started. lol, jk. I'm from a country, I believe that has only made the WC once.
Thanks, Dan

Welcome and thanks for the thanks ;D Its nice to hear that the site is usefull as thats what i made it for! As for your questions here is what I think, im sure others will add to it! : 1. I would use Armour piercing on destroyers as this has the most chance to penetrate through and damage the vitals, on cargo ships and tankers ect i always use High explosive. If you can with destroyers you should be aiming to knock the guns off, though i never use the through the sight views for the gun, only the main view as i feel the sights are too accurate (And i never take on destroyers with guns it ends in tears lol) The best hit would be waterline hit for cargo ships ect. This is when the shell makes a splash just infront of the ship, but also goes on to hit the ship! Landing the shell a few metres infront of the ship does this but its a tricky shot. I would also vary the areas you hit them in to make many compartments of the boat flood. 2. Armour piercing for warships, high explosive for oilers and cargo in my opinion. Though most destroyers are not very armoured if at all, so HE works well on them also. 3.Spread it around i think! Makes more leaks and more fires 4. Passenger liners are the most important of all targets in my opinion. They have troops on them with their guns and equipment, not to mention ammo. They are a high priority target. I would set these as one of my first targets, then oilers, then cargos. Battleships and Carriers Cruisers Troopships Oilers Cargos Others Destroyers Thats my order of importance and i think pretty much the real Uboatsmens list! As for football I guess you are American since you call it soccer (dont!!) Am i right?

Hi all,
I agree with Dominico, as for the which targets to hit first. On the liners just don't shoot a Neutral target, because they are truly passenger liners. As for spreading around your gun shots, I prefer to concentrate in one area. Bow or stern. Let the added weight of the ship work in your favor, it will sink faster. Also the more fires you have on deck will help to sink ships faster as well. As for attacking destroyers don't attack if they are going less than 12 knots, because they are listening and will hear your torpedo. If they are screening on the side of a convoy they are usually easy pickings. the hard ones are the ones trailing a convoy. less noise for their sonar guy to deal with.
Good hunting.... ;D

1986 in Mexico, first time we made it. we lost 2-0 to Hungary and the Soviet Union. And lost 1-0 to France. (We almost scored a goal too.) Since then, we've sucked. LOL

I hear ya DB. You'd think that Canada, one of the world's most mutli-cultured country in the world would have an awesome team? We have every race in the world living in the Toronto area. You would think we would have and or develope some of the best players around. Well, sadly, the answer is no. In the 90's, all we had to do was tie Australia, to go to the WC, but we blew it. We won the CONCACAF in Mexico in 2000. We thought we had something, but again, we were denied later on. We had that German coach, Hoaglund? (I think?), who brought us moments of greatness, but it wasn't enough. So Tony and I go to the pubs, he cheers for Italia, while I cheer for every team that plays Italy. LOL Ciao, Dan

You are a strange breed my friend. I've never met an Italian that would cheer England or the British Commonwealth for that matter. But then again, I grew up in an Italian neighbourhood in Canada.
Not being negative, I find your loyalty very cool and admirable. My friend Tony will enjoy hearing this.
Ciao, Dan
