Well by now it looks like all of us are getting the hang on this Sim .. But even with 2 or 3 Patrols it's obvious that even with 100% or close to 100% realism .. it's still not gonna be realistic in terms of the way it was out there in R/L.. In R/L you didn't sink 12 or so ships on a patrol, and you didn't sink 200k tons by just 1940 ... (Kretschmer, the best of the best only sunk 6 ships over a 30 day patrol and on his LAST patrol he got 8 over 18 day period and then was sunk and captured) BUT Realism aside, the GAME is a blast, your heart thumps as you chase the target, and a good YEA follows a sinking.. Half the fun is also looking at others SS and hearing their adventures .. wondering how did he make that shot, or cool SS Dom is doing a great job here, maybe he can figure out how he wants it so part of this place can be for those stories, SS, without spreading them out all over the different threads ?? anyway keep those SS coming and remember it's just a game

Yeah, a different section for war stories would be good. Nobody really likes to play it like it was in real life... You don't want all your torps to go dud, the crew tired, the engines brake or a destroyer pounding your ass in 3 seconds. You want to have fun in front of the PC without worrying about how much oxigen you have left or if you can pump all the water out and get back to the surface ever again. A true Jedi seeks peace The fact that it's just a game makes all the fun... Speaking of war stories, i have something interesting to tell. It happend today, while i was on patrol. I had just finished the 24 hour patroll, had 9 more torpedoes and 75% fuel, and decided to visit sunny Spain, so i headed for Gibraltar, in the hope of evading the storm above and finding calmer seas with richer booty. I was let's say 300 kilometers from Spain's western shore (in the Atlantic) and the weather was bad, cloudy with large waves. It was about 20:00 hours when i received a report about a ship south of me, travelling in my direction. I raced on it's supposed bearing, only to find nothing. Kicked the hydrophone man out of his seat and sent him to get a cup of coffe, and began searching. I heard a faint noise bearing arround 120 degrees and went in that direction with flank speed. When i got there i used the hydro again and found engine sound bearing 240 degrees. When i got there the situation repetead. At one time it sounded like it was in front of me, only after 30 minutes it was behind me, and than to my left, and than to my right. It was 04:00 am allready and i couldn't see a damned thing up on deck. I chased it untill 8:00 am when i finnaly lost the engine sound. Looking over the map in frustration i noticed i had zig-zagged for about 700 km north of the ship's sighting. The words ghost-ship kept ringing in my head, but i just said it was bad luck and went back up on deck to see the storm that was still raging.

figured I finish my thoughts on this and let it drop... Anyway I think most of us have as much fun posting, reading good war stories, taking and looking at SS and writing a creative war report including SS as we do playing the game (and its alot less eye stain than peering into the dark rainy night).. Obvisouly Dom has as much, maybe even more working on this site than he does playing (or this place wouldn't be here) (or he gets no sleep, has no life, and acts strangely alone in his bedroom ).. In fact the game becomes secondary, it is where you go to create the story you will tell the world, and to the reader it becomes like reading a book or going to a movie (an adventure without all the work)... I'd be willing to bet that alot of the guest here and even some members don't even have the game BUT have as much fun reading these post as the people actually playing the game... OK Ive spouted off long enough .. save those SS, get those creative writing juices flowing, and then we'll all wait for Dom to set the direction if he feels its viable

Hint hint All good ideas! That ghost ship thing worried me a bit, ive not had that yet though thankfully! At the moment my social life is losing out a bit but the way i look at it your social life is for fun, if i have fun playing this game and making the website and chatting with you guys then this too is a type of social life right?? Just agree with me Well i will make the section now!! **thinks of a name for it...**

Guys this one about realism and Nav map contacts? My last patrol and a new second patrol I am playing at 73% realism When I was in channel on way back to Kiel I would see these Red ship icons pop on? close to me then fad out? Were are these coming From? They are not visual? I did track a ship with Hydrophone 359 deg and getting louder? that makes the heart race Approching in the dark suddenly the merch or cargo ship appears dead approching run to UZO all ahead left full rudder to get in postion for a side shot which I got off two fish and got a firery explostion try to capture with a screeshot ;D Would you belive this the pc locked up I have save near by so I want back to same area did not see that ship but I was luckey i got credit for the Kill I don't know how? It showed on patrol report as sunk but I missed the screenshot I have had about 3 lockups with sh3 so i be sure to save ever chance I get on patrol. Not sure what cause the lockups but virus scanners were running. and was on line. so I turn them off and go off line just in case? I have some more questions but will make a new post Lane

Hope this turns out. Never have posted a picture before. My third patrol in U-48. I received a message from a German ship requesting assistance. When I went to that location, I found the German Raider Pinguin. (See screen shot below)

Agreed with you Stryker.... I LOVE reading the stories and especially seeing a story with SS!
Now that I have my SHII working so-so...I will have to take some screenies on my next convoy chase. Problem is I get so into the game when I get into a convoy, I forget to take SS...
btw...I REALLY LOVED the story you posted on the main homepage Dom! I can see why you won an award with that.
