Well i have just now started my second full real, dead is dead, ironman or whatever you call it campaign. This time i thought i would go for super difficult. So i have everything on except free view, and i chose the tiny type II for a laugh. Well as soon as i appeared in port i really regretted this. My god they are embarrassing, its no wonder you cant see me on deck as we leave port, its because im hidden below decks crying about the tiny U-boat... As my mum would say, there is not room to swing a cat in there, i can see if this patrol lasts more then a week i am going to be getting on the nerves of my crew, and vice versa... Anyone else sailing in one of these tin cans? Had any luck?? I actually only "bought" one crewmember because i know i need all the renown i can get to get out of this thing...

Lol i sailed on one of those for about 6 months till I got a VIIB. ;D Had some luck with some merchant ships and was fortunate not to meet destroyers. But the small number of torpedo tubes sucks.

Just started a career with same settings , in this tiny rust bucket, damn near ran out of fuel on first patrol, did manage to stumble across an English C2 which went down with 2 fish, next day found a Polish Coastal and used the other 3 (2 duds and 1 hit) and the damn thing wouldn't sink.. all I could do was give it the finger as it steamed smoking out of sight and I had to return to base ... maybe a thread for individuial careers (DID) ? just for those war stories we all love to tell

Ya, I was in one of those for several patrols. It is all there is when you start at the 1st Flotilla. I was happy with two kills a patrol with one of those. I did not know any different so figured this is just how it was. Then when I got VIIB I realized how bad off those things are. I mean a deck gun is a good thing! lol I am glad I did this though, make me really aprreciate the VII's.

In keil you come out of the subpens. The band is there but away to your left as you sail out, i always sailed back to them, but got a quiet send off Go to free view and zoom over to the left of the area. You will hear hte noise and see a new sub being built on the side of the dock!

Cool Well good news and bad news, i made it through 3 patrols in my type II and managed to sink 2 ships and damage 2 massive frieghters but not sink them either duds or misses, i cant tell since im full real lol. I just had enough renown after the last mission to get into my favourite the type VIIB and all was going well. It looked like i was going to break all records after sinking 3 or 4 freighters with cannon and picking off a destroyer at 1500+ yards at night (i couldnt believe it) I fired, and then set for 50 metres and spun to head the opposite direction, then since my mind was made up and watching wouldnt affect the fact i was running i watched the torp with free cam. It only just hit on the front! Immediatly the lights on the V class destroyer came on and he started searching for his attacker but within seconds the bow dipped and he plummeted to the seabed. Now my dilemma, i thought i would get closer the port Firth of Forth and all was going well till i got myself surrounded by destroyers and patrol boats. I made my way inland to sit it out till sunset and then disaster struck. I was running on the surface best watch crew on, when i suddenly got the call "we are under attack!!" plane i thought, and ran to the bridge, to hear a "whiiiiz splash!" A shell swooping overhead. A moment of indecision cost me as a searchlight pinned the U-boat and i was hit by a shell in the rear. Crash dive!!!! 4 more hits before i got under (one while i was at about 10 metres deep through the water, wicked shot!! ) Then he pummelled me with charges, and i got flooding!! I crashed into the seabed out of control and just sat there, i switched to silent running once i had flooding under control and could hear him pinging and dropping charges all about above me but luckily nothing bad. Then after about an hour he lost interest (or ran out of ammo) and left. phew... The best bit of damage control i have had in my life lol, i was bricking it, running crews trying to stop 3-4 flooding compartments!!! I managed to get them stopped and sat stuck on the bottom making repairs. After about 2 hours all i could fix was done and i surveyed the scene. My sub is a wreck... Radio antenna gone, both diesals gone, one elec engine gone. One battery gone. I now wonder, is my sub saveable? Im currently running for deep water and im nearly out of batteries, i cant charge more. I can surface ect but no radio messages and no diesals. Since im playing dead is dead should i now quit or would i be able to get back in real life via a tow? Or someone bringing repairs or the crew jury rigging an engine? If i escape it takes 6 days to get back (i saved and tried to see if it said "you are captured!" but it didnt... Well let me know what you think would happen in real life, thats what im interested in! This was the boat when i had repaired all i could, notice water trapped in the engine room, i couldnt pump this till i got above 50 metres lol, pretty cool! Trying to radio in my condition... no signal notice the wrecked engines... This is the range i estimate i could go on my batteries, minimum, maybe i could get a few miles further... only one prop is spinning though So whats the verdict guys? Could i be rescued or am i dead and captured? ps its december 39 so france is not captured yet! Makes a rescue even less likely i would guess.

Guess that in real life the sub would be scuttled and the crew would have surrendered to the brits, like Otto Kretschmer did. No one would send a tug all the way there, and since the radio is dead anyway...

yea I agree, they would've scuttled the boat. great stories, by the way, I love hearing other people's experiences in the game. It makes me love the game even more! There are so few games like this, where we all have unique experiences, and cool stories to tell. It's something more games should aspire to: break away from complete linearity. what a game.

No rescue for you my friend, put the men in boats and scuttle her, ... Now since you don't have a DD sitting on top of you claim to be from Norway, left adrift from a trawler sunk by a Uboat last seen sailing West if picked up by the Allies

gutted, i sort of knew it though.... just posted here incase someone had a wondrous escape plan lol I did so well to survive!!! Verdamnt! lol I suppose at least this second campaign we all survived the war. As long as we make it to the coast... Well onto the boats then men and wait for dawn. It is clear weather... I will say hello to winstan for you! lol Beaten in 1939.... this was a cursed campaign. Now whether to start in a type II Again... Some images from my glorious/disastrous last patrol! U-53 bravely uses the deck gun off the coast of scotland. A few minutes later the boat sinks into the deep. After cat and mouse with a destroyer he heads off, not even noticing he went right over me U-53 tries to even the odds... Hit!! Forward compartments quickly fill and take the ww1 workhorse to the depths. Photo through the periscope lol reminded me of starwars ps Doh mad mike!! i always check and double check lol, i have such a bad memory i forget where i was patroling by the time the game has loaded...
