1) Change the crosshair from CROSS to DOT
2) Do not make the crosshair become RED when u are pointing a ship
3) Reduce the range at night for your WO to spot targets
Any of these possible?

One thing i noticed when playing is the crosshair only lights up when you should be able to see the target. If its lighting up and you cant see them then your brightness is wrong. Usually the ai spotting distance for your watch ect is worse then your own (in my experience). Maybe someone will make a mod for a dot or something, I think all the mods are asleep The thing i would like changing is the notpad spot. At very long range they know what type it is, warship, cargo ect. I wish i could stop this untill closer range. But for now i try my hardest not to look at the notepad lmao

Here's something else that I want to know if is possible: to remove the ugly great orange arrow thing from the external views. I like to play as realistic as possible, but I allow externals just for taking screenshots, that horrible orange thing therefore annoys me a great deal

crosshairs are a cross, thats why they call them cross hairs not dothairs Ive noticed that the red triangle that pops up shows you know its there but the at an unshootable range yellow triangle its in range but LONG Range not worth taking a shot green triangle shooting range just dont confuse the triangle as being the firing solution

It just needs replacing with a blank texture. Mmmm we need some mods in here!! Lol Where are the computer savvy people...

I've never done modding before, so I don't really know what to do. Would like to try, though.
Any idea where these textures and things are kept? and are they in a "sensible" file format?

They are not sensible no lol they are TGA's so you need a converter to change them over. You can get a program to open them free on the net somewhere, just google it. Or if you have a good paint program it should do it. They are in the Data/textures folder. You would have to search around for it, i guess it would be in there somewhere, i had a look and could not tell by names alone. Though i saw one texture called walrus Wonder what that is!

What i wanted to say with the crosshair is that any form it has is ok with me. What's not ok is that u can aim for a ship that you shouldn't even see by night...and when the crosshair becomes red you know that the ship is there, even if you can't see it.
This actually "cheats" on vision capabilities. It's not about my brightness...it's really pitch dark out there at 3 am but the crosshair becomes red and i know the ship is there.
Same thing for the uzo-periscope "-" which becomes "cargo" or "destroyer" or "any-unidentified-ship" as soon as i point it. that "-" changes and you know ure looking at a ship.
These should be changed...if possible...anyone knows how to? And of course...at night, the WO spotting a ship at 7km is quite ridiculous. If this parameter was at reach i would change that.
I don't take outside views at 100% realism so the orange circle doesn't touch me...but these things do, bc they spoil realism. Anyone knows how to?

ahh yea cool, I've got a program that can open TGAs. In fact, I recommend it: Irfanview. it's good for basic image manipulation (resizing, batch conversion etc...). It also has some filters. Great little program, and the best part: it's totally free. For painting, GIMP is meant to be really good. But I havent tried that one, for I have photoshop But Irfanview is truly excellent for your basic image manipulation needs.

someone just posted this in the official forums: how to turn off the horrible bright orange arrow: go to the SilentHunterIII\data\Misc folder, and rename the file UMark.tga to UmarkOLD.tga or something.

Why not just remove the file from that folder and keep it with all your other "original" files. It works a treat and no need to re-name anything. Always keep a backup of the original files in case a mod you try doesn't work as expected.
