Did the Canadian ships really fly a flag other than the Canadian one? I did not know that. I wonder why they did that?

Thats wired... I ran into a C3 ship yesterday that looked like it was flying a British flag... It was red with Union Jack on it (I think thats what its called) but had the BLUE cross like stripes of Norway on it too..... I encountered it North of Scappa.
Anyone else see one like this.

Thanks for the flags! But I have seen strange flag on some neutral freighters off Norway in April 1940. It is a red flag with a big circle filled with white. It looks like the inversion of the japanese merchant flag, or the german merchant flag without the black nazi cross. I have looked at it close up, the white circle is just white with no markings.
Has anyone seen it, and can tell me what flag it is?
/Henric
